Andrew Mentis Endowment Fund Golf Day

Port Shepstone Country Club 24th September 2017

Our Andrew Mentis Fundraising evening was held over the Heritage day long weekend and kicked off with two awesome evening whisky tastings at the Mthunzi Hotel & Conference that were hosted by the whisky connoisseur Tommy Larkan.

Our 2017 AMF Golf Tournament that was held at Port Shepstone Country Club on Sunday the 24th of September 2017 was a roaring success.

Arranging the event at the end of September when our annual rainy season starts was a huge gamble that fortunately paid off this time. My sincerest thanks to Jesse Verster and his team that held off on their spring treatment until after this event, to ensure great playing conditions on the day.

A field of 107 players teed off in cloudy weather conditions and the course played superbly. The playing conditions and alliance format suited most and some great scores were recorded by the local folks.

Well done to the team of Raj, Ramesh, Hiraman Lakraj and Bobby Naidoo that scooped up the honors with an awesome score of 96 points.

Thanks to Bevis Fairbrother, our very efficient fines master for his humorous fines session and many thanks to Ryan Ringo for auctioning off a whole lamb and a few other awesome prizes.

My sincerest thanks to all our sponsors that contributed so enthusiastically to make this event such a great success (Glenbrynth Scotch Whisky, SAB, Scottfin Insurance, East Coast Breweries, Rawson Properties, Niccil Plumbing, Mtunzi Hotel & Conference, Halfway Ford, Rock Candy, Hibiscus Coast Insurance, Glen Smit Properties, Out of Wood Interiors, P&G Construction & Mnandi Meats).

The NSRI, (one of the two beneficiaries of this year’s AMF fund raising) also attended the event. Well done on their awesome display and thanks for also sponsoring lots of lovely prizes.

Our aim is that the proceeds of this year’s fundraising will contribute to the creation of improved facilities at the NSRI and Alexander Home for the aged.

ANDREW MENTIS ENDOWMENT FUND GOLF DAY

In line with the laid down aims and objectives of our Club the Andrew Mentis Endowment Fund was created to channel the funds generated for distribution to charitable causes and assist those persons, regardless of race, colour or creed, in a less fortunate position than ourselves

The fund was started by Andrew Mentis, a Nomad Founder Member in 1967 in Gauteng and he still contributes personally to the fund every year.

Each member club forms an Andrew Mentis sub-committee, which is chaired by the Vice Captain and is specifically tasked to co-ordinate activities aimed at raising funds for the fund. Monies raised are donated to a pre-selected charity that operates within our own geographical area, in the form of tangible asset upon which the Nomads emblem is displayed. The culmination of activities where the handover to Charity takes place is the annual Andrew Mentis golf day which is also open to the public by invitation. This gives invited guests, including women and juniors an opportunity to experience the Nomadic camaraderie and purpose at its finest. Nationally, since inception, the Andrew Mentis Endowment Fund has raised and donated in excess of R 20 million to charities.

Getting involved in the annual Andrew Mentis drive for funds is a basic Nomadic responsibility. This involves entering the various draws at the monthly games, donating prizes won as well as sponsoring holes at the annual Andrew Mentis Day.
